As the awareness to environmental issues is rising up the latest years, more and more cities around the world starting programs of bike renting to encourage reducing the use of cars and by that reducing air pollution.
At my project I wanted to find a solution to the fact you can rent a bicycle but cannot rent a helmet, and to give an opportunity for a safe riding with a rental bike. I designed a recyclable helmet made of paper pulp. I choose paper for it is a cheap and available material, it is light weight, strong and recyclable. The helmet assembled 2 layers: the outside layer made from recycled craft paper which is the strongest pulp used for packing, it designed with many ribs to make a strong structure so it can resist high force. The inner layer made with processed pulp which is softer and waterproofed. Each layer is produced from a 2 parts mold so they can be stacking and reduce storage space. The helmet can be used for a single ride or few rides and when end of use it can be recycled. |
